Google I/O 2014: Material Design Explained! [Week 1/2]

May some of you may heard or not here is my post explaining the newest Google invention: Material Design. Remember to pause the blog's music player before proceeding to the video or else you may get double music!

Last month, Google just revealed its new design language: Material Design. On stage at I/O, Google's Vice President of Design Matias Duarte emphasized that elements, transitions, and animations should appear as if in real life.  All the updates is mainly targeted for its services like Android, Chrome OS, and web apps and this includes splashes of colour, refreshed iconography, typography, and a more consistent interface hierarchy. The entire UI is based on Google said "unifying theory of a rationalised space and a system of motion."

Despite on going 'flat' as what Apple did last year, Google thinks how if pixels didn't have just colour but also depth . The focus of the redesign is bringing the interface in line with reality. What that translates to is "material" effects that react to your touch. Google's refreshed phone and tables apps will come with the Project 'L' release of Android later this year, but they're available to developers since the announcement happens.

Food Tour #1 (Union Jakarta) [Week 1/1]

If people asked me what kind of food do I eat, I will say mostly anything. I've travelled to gorgeous places all around the world basically to find good foods. To me, good food means good life.

The further food tour that I post will feature all the good restaurants, bars and cafés around the world. Some people may do price over quality, but I'm the other way around. For the area that I lived in Jakarta, people enjoy eating hawker foods but as we hangout we always do the higher end one. It is amusing that most good food here comes with a reasonable price.

Here is one good place that I will recommend anytime starting from breakfast until dinner.

UNION Jakarta

For a food business, they've taken this seriously. The owner are a married couple, the husband works on all the brasserie stuff and his wife do all the bakery stuff. Starting from restaurant to bakery all the dishes will always satisfy your expectation. Union also known for transforming simple cakes into something complex and it really works. Every layer comes with different taste and texture. The famous Union-style Red Velvet cake is a must try. I cannot denny the fact that it's the best in the world.

Escargot with garlic butter ($10)
Just by looking at the pics it makes me salivate already. A mouthwatering dish, so perfect for an appetiser.

Fennel Crusted Pork Belly with Potato Mash and Honey Mustard Vinaigrette ($13)
Crispy pork skin and juicy pork with the layers of fat. The vinaigrette really pull up the whole dish.

Red Velvet Cake ($5/slice)
Moist red velvet cakes (the redness comes naturally from beetroot) brushed with alcohol, layered with cream cheese frosting and sweet caramelised nuts. Absolutely sublime.

Nastar Crumble Cake ($5/slice)
Nastar is Indo word for Chinese pineapple cookies. Here they transform a nastar into a gorgeous cake, smart enough isn't it? This is a type cake that you'll not find anywhere else in the world. They ice the cake with pineapple jelly, cream cheese icing and snowy-textured crumble. Taste? Perfect.

Verdict:
Food: 9/10
Price: $$
Service: +++
